Mariah Carey tweets to Tony Bennett

Mariah Carey took some time on Wednesday afternoon (August 3) to send a little Twitter love to high-profile celebrities on their birthday... one Tony Bennett. Carey was quick to wish the 85-year-old crooner a happy day. Mariah Carey tweeted: "Happy birthday to the eternally young Mr. Tony Bennett. Today all the 'bells ring for you'. Hope to see you soon. Fingers crossed."

Fingers crossed? That seems somewhat odd, but it was the follow-up tweet that really clues one in to what was going on. "When do the bells ring for me? Mariah's new duet with the legenday Tony Bennett is available for pre-order now."

Now this makes sense. Not only was Mariah Carey wishing Tony Bennett a happy birthday, but she was also trying to sell CDs. Why can't people just wish one another a happy birthday without it being a giant public relations moment?

Of course, she might have taken her lead from birthday girl Martha Stewart who was trying to get people to head to Home Depot to buy her line of kitchen products. It just goes to show, don't send flowers, candy, or cards... just send cold-hard cash.
