Bone Thugs to say farewell with final, million-dollar album
See you at the crossroads, so you won't be lonely... Remember that heavenly rap video? Never has a group of thug rappers harmonized so sweetly about the grim reaper topic of death. Ever since Layzie Bone, Krayzie Bone, Bizzy Bone, Flesh-N-Bone and Wish Bone (aka Bone Thugs n-Harmony) released their Grammy winning hit "Tha Crossroads" in the 90's, there has never been a more melodic rap group to hit the stage. Several albums later (including the Easy E tribute E.1999/Eternal), and a reunifying of all five original members, Bone Thugs will now bless the world again with a world tour and... One. Final. Album. But this is not just any album. There will only be one copy, and it will cost $1 million!
The idea was originally sparked by the Wu-Tang Clan, who did a similar project with their "secret" single-copy album Once Upon a Time in Shaolin. "When I heard about what Wu-Tang Clan was doing, I just thought it was a brilliant and genius idea," Krayzie Bone told HipHopDX. "We talked about it for a while then we were coming up on this world tour. We said, 'We need to do everything simultaneously.' The idea for that is to make it the final group project. What better way to go out and to solidify the Bone Thugs-n-Harmony brand. I don't see no other way. It has to be big."
Originally the group was working on a 20th anniversary of E. 1999/Eternal, but they decided that auctioning an all-new album with the likes of Mariah Carey, Phil Collins, Drake, Wiz Khalifa and Kendrick Lamar as guest stars would really put the stamp on their 20-year legacy in showbiz. Krayzie reported that the album will be called E.1999/Legends. Long-time producer DJ U-Neek will be at the helm.
As for the direction of the concept piece? Still up for debate. The group is trying to tell their entire life story from before meeting mentor Easy E 'till now. Easy E marked a major life change for the Cleveland quintet when they took a one-way bus ticket to LA. After repeatedly calling Easy E's office, Krayzie rapped for him over the phone, and the rest, as they say, is history.
Now, as a final farewell to both Easy E and Bone Thugs, the group will deliver what promises to be their magnum opus. Bone Thugs-n-Harmony are willing to place their legacy at stake on a hoped-for bidding war for the top secret concept piece. Their big dream? To restore value to the art of the rap album.
