"Black Widow" accused of being a blatant Mariah rip-off

Iggy Azalea and Rita Ora have been painting on their finest spandex to play sexy samurais on the set of the video for their collaborative single "Black Widow". But it looks like Quentin Tarantino isn't the only name they've been inspired by.

Many people are pointing out that the song bears an uncanny resemblance to Mariah Carey's "Thirsty" from her forthcoming, brilliantly arrogant, fourteenth studio album, Me. I Am Mariah. While Iggy has had more than her share of industry beef in the very recent past, this time it's not really her fault. Katy Perry originally wrote "Black Widow" for herself, intending for Iggy to feature on it, before agreeing to pass the track to the Aussie emcee and Ora.

It's not the first time Perry has sort of but not really shaded Mariah Carey. Back in March she called Mariah "fabulous... for a throwback" when she appeared on the Australian TV show Sunrise. TBH though I never know whether Perry is throwing sly shade or is just completely unaware that her mouth is still moving. She's also slammed Gaga for appropriating religions (lol) and Britney for using product placement.

In this case, I doubt Katy Perry is actively trying to "sabotage" Mariah's career. Not to deny Mariah's legacy - "All I Want for Christmas Is You" is arguably the greatest song of the last two centuries - but that would be like Beyonce trying to sabotage the impending comeback of Hilary Duff. Anyway, science has already proven that every song of summer is basically exactly the same.

However, the similarities are striking. Take a listen below. And if you're looking for something brilliantly unique, may we suggest Reggie Watts' equine-themed collaboration with the always-relevant ZZ Top.
