Mariah Carey set to "make it happen" in Taipei

Sixteen years after her last visit to Taiwan, American singing sensation Mariah Carey was all smiles and kisses when she arrived in the country from Singapore on a personal jet early Saturday for her upcoming Taipei concert.

Sporting a fitted black gown, a black leather jacket and large sunglasses, the singer said "thank you" and smiled at the press upon her arrival at the Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport with her three-year-old twins.

The friendly diva then blew a kiss and waved at the cameras, before getting into a Rolls-Royce and being escorted to the hotel. Around a dozen fans were waiting outside of the upscale Regent Taipei when the singer arrived and she approached them and signed autographs for a few before entering the hotel.

Carey will not attend any public events other than her concert at the Taipei World Trade Center Nangang Exhibition Hall on October 26, according to local promoter Festival Boys International Company.

The concert is part of her multi-stop tour, the Elusive Chanteuse Show, which has so far taken her to Japan, South Korea, China, Malaysia and Singapore, and will be held in Taiwan, the Philippines, Thailand, Australia and New Zealand.

Taipei-based Festival Boys had been vying for the Carey gig for a year, and her team eventually agreed to a fee of US$900,000 for the concert, the promoter said in August.

She will stay at the presidential suite of the Regent Taipei and the hotel has spent NT$120,000 (US$3,946) transforming one of the rooms into a children's playroom for Carey's twins, Moroccan and Monroe, the promoter said. The hotel has also decorated the suite with flowers and candles and prepared desserts, organic Taiwanese vegetables and fruits, and bathrobes embroidered with Carey and her twins' names.
