That bling is better suited for the opera

As if there wasn't enough ice on the streets in frozen New York, Mariah Carey felt the need to bring some of her own with a blinging necklace on Monday. She stepped out alone in the city wearing expensive dazzling ruby and diamond necklace (with matching earrings), which would not be out of place on a red-carpet.

In true Mariah Style, the 44-year-old songstress teamed the impressive stones with a more casual look, proving that she can bring bling to any occasion. Wearing a thick cream coloured cardigan, a short chocolate brown dress with opaque brown hosiery and matching high-heeled brown suede boots she avoided slipping on the frozen streets with the aid of a bodyguard who took her arm.

Smiling, with her long hair worn loose, the singer used large dark sunglasses to hide her eyes. She didn't appear to show any signs that her imminent divorce from Nick Cannon or recent criticisms of her live performances have affected her spirits.

Last month she was caught out lip-syncing during the 2015 Jazz And Blues Festival in Jamaica, disappointing fans who paid upwards of $200 to watch her belt out her chart-topping hits. And at Christmas she was harshly criticized for mouthing the words to her mega-successful holiday hit All I Want For Christmas Is You at the annual NBC special In Rockefeller Center in December.

She will be hoping to bounce back with a Vegas residency at The Colosseum inside Caesars Palace. Following in the footsteps of Britney Spears, Shania Twain and Reba McEntire, the Grammy-award winning hitmaker filled in the spot left by previous Caesars headliner Celine Dion, who is currently taking care of her ailing husband.

She kicks off the first of her 18 shows on May 6 but to Mariah's disappointment, fans have not exactly rushed to buy tickets. Poor ticket sales have left several of her upcoming concerts with empty seats. Although her residency does not begin for another two months, Mariah's shows are falling behind early sales projections.
