Producer apologises to Mariah over relationship quotes

Music producer Damion Young has issued an apology to Mariah Carey after he allegedly opened up about a whirlwind love affair with the superstar in the late 1990s in an interview with a UK tabloid. Young, aka Damizza, was quoted extensively in a DailyMail.co.uk article, titled, "My affair with scared and lonely Mariah Carey... the diva who lives in a bubble", which was published on Sunday.

In the piece, he reportedly shared details about how the Hero hitmaker turned to Young for help in reviving her career following her split from music mogul Tommy Mottola in 1997, and revealed all about how their friendship reportedly turned romantic.

According to the Mail, the secret relationship came to an end when Young, who worked with Carey on hits including I Still Believe, Crybaby and Irresistible, tired of her lonely, jet-setting lifestyle. He is quoted as saying, "I was her producer, her lover, her best friend. She would not make a decision without talking to me first. I was very much in love with Mariah, I still am."

"Mariah lives inside a bubble. I lived inside her world for a while but I had to get out for my own sanity. The thing I remember most about being with her was the quiet and the loneliness. She didn't have many friends. For a long time I was her best friend."

However, Young claims the romance story is completely fabricated and although he did speak to the Mail, the relationship quotes attributed to him are all made up. Taking to Twitter.com on Sunday, he wrote, "My apologies to Mariah Carey, that was not what the article was to be about and was not my quotes."

He later added, "I just read full article for the first time. Wow! I didn't say none of that s**t." Carey has yet to comment on the controversy.
