Suicide rumors denied by Cindi Berger

Despite what the British Daily Newspaper, the Sun, and other media sources have printed about Mariah's hospitalization for a "suicide attempt" after a supposed breakup with her boyfriend Luis Miguel, her spokesperson Cindy Berger categorically denied all the speculation in an interview with Reforma Newspaper's "Gente!".

What's more, she assured us that the Mexican singer (Luis Miguel) will visit her in the hospital, where she will be for a few more days, and when he does visit her, they will take some photos to send to the media to demonstrate that the breakup rumors are false.

"The newspapers that printed these stories are accustomed to printing rumors and lies that they later deny. Within the next few weeks, there will be official proof that they are not separated because Luis will visit her and there will be pictures of this. Luis Miguel has been in frequent communication with her by telephone and I would like to dispense with this absurd rumors," claimed the spokesperson for Carey during a telephone call from New York, in a tone that clearly indicated how bothered she is by the rumors.

When asked if she thought it was strange that more than a week had gone by and Luis hadn't been to visit his girlfriend in New York, Berger explained that physical contact is not necessary to maintain closeness.

"He (Luis) has a very busy schedule at the moment, but he has been calling her frequently, as often as he can, and as soon as he can he will visit her. He knows that it is serious, but not grave, and that it is necessary for her to get her rest," she emphasized. The director of public relations for the "Loverboy" singer indicated that Carey had been hospitalized in New York for exhaustion following the heavy promotion of her album and movie (Glitter), not for a suicide attempt.

"It is a complete lie that she attempted suicide, a lot of people don't understand that she's a human being and she gets sick like everyone else. Mariah was completely worn out - physically and emotionally, and she is under doctor's care, receiving medication and must get complete rest for at least the next three weeks" Berger indicated.

Clearly bothered by the situation and recent misconceptions by various media about the ex-wife of Tommy Motolla, Berger explained that prior to her hospitalization, Mariah accidentally dropped some plates and glasses from a tray in her bedroom and she stepped on some broken glass with her bare feet, cutting herself in the process. This is precisely what happened, an accident, and this was definitely NOT a suicide attempt that prompted psychiatric treatment.

Mariah Carey cancelled her appearance at the 20th birthday anniversary celebration for MTV that took place yesterday, due to her state of health. She has also postponed her promotional activities surrounding her upcoming movie Glitter, in which she makes her debut as a leading actress. The album and movie are scheduled for world-wide release later this month.

"No one in the office is sure of when she will resume her normal activities because everything depends on what the doctor says. What is for certain is that there will be changes to her schedule regarding promotion of the album and the movie," commented Berger.

Just a few weeks ago, in a press conference, the 31 year old singer dismissed rumors of a secret marriage with Luis Miguel, and in various interviews she indicated that they were both artists with independent careers and separate professional lives. These comments provoked a confusion with the information service Notimex, who translated the interview she gave to Latina Magazine. Her comments were interpreted as a statement from her that she and Luis "had separated" and this caused such an international controversy that finally Carolina Miranda, director of Public Relations for the publication, finally had to deny the allegation.

"In the past few days there's been so much said about this that we're tired of this situation. When they decide to terminate their relationship, you will hear about it officially from her office or spokesperson, and not from unfounded comments by the media," Berger stated.
