Mariah Carey still in hospital

There's no new news regarding the condition of Mariah Carey, who was admitted to an undisclosed New York-area hospital last week amid reports that she was suffering from exhaustion. The pop singer, 31, has cancelled her headline role in MTV's 20th anniversary show on Wednesday while she is still recuperating, her spokeswoman, Cindi Berger, told Reuters on Tuesday.

Carey "is still in the hospital, and she is getting her much needed rest," said Berger. Carey, the biggest-selling female recording star of the past decade, was admitted to the hospital on July 25 after having completed, in recent months, two movies, Glitter and Wise Girls.

She also wrote, recorded and produced her newest album, the soundtrack to Glitter, and the promotion of all three efforts would have benefited by her appearance on the MTV show. Glitter, set to open in Australia on Oct. 11, was originally called All That Glitters, and its plot sounds remarkably similar to those of A Star Is Born and Funny Girl. Set against the New York club scene, the movie traces the rags-to-riches story of Billie Frank (Carey), the survivor of a turbulent childhood who is discovered by a bad-boy DJ (Max Beesley). They become partners and lovers, and he sets her on the road to stardom.
