Mariah's first singled pulled?
Mariah Carey has not been given the vote of confidence she was looking for from new record label Def Jam - they've refused to release her new single. Carey signed to the label in May, four months after Virgin Records paid her a staggering $56 million to cancel her contract with them. The singer hoped the new deal would help her make speedy comeback after a troubled 2001, which included the failure of her movie debut "Glitter" and a highly publicised spell in hospital after an emotional breakdown.
But it seems Def Jam want to tread cautiously and decided not to release "Through The Rain" - the first song from Carey's new LP "Charmbracelet" - as a single. But the announcement has been greeted with some consternation by die-hard Mariah fans. One devotee told US gossip columnist Jeanette Walls, "It's the first song released from Charmbracelet, and it's been getting good airplay. Mariah fans buy a lot of singles. I just don't understand this decision." (SoundBuzz)
