All that "Glitter"s isn't gold for Mariah, yet!

"Glitter", Mariah's highly anticipated new release, has debuted at #13 on the Australian Recording Industry Association Top 50 Album chart and at #1 on the Top 20 Urban Album chart. Mariah's last release, "Rainbow", had a peak position of #4. This is also Mariah's first #1 Urban Album since the Urban chart was only introduced earlier this year.

This week's #1 is the "Bridget Jones Diary" soundtrack which stays at #1 for the third week in a row and is now certified Gold after 7 weeks on the chart. In a week of high album debuts, Slipknot's "Iowa" debuts at #2, New Order's "Get Ready" at #7 and Bjork's "Vespertine" at #9.

So not exactly a sparkling debut for Mariah this time around. However, all higher debuts this week are from artists with prodominantly high first week sales, and they should all fall back next week, making way for MC's climb to the top. Australian audiences will have to wait until November 1st to see the film, so sales should rise when it premieres. As the Australian Mariah Carey Fanclub announced yesterday, the film has been pushed back a further 2 weeks.

On the Top 50 Singles chart "Loverboy" slips 6 places to #45, just scraping inside in its 7th week on the chart. It remains Top 15 on the Urban Singles chart, sitting at #12. "Loverboy" was officially certified gold last week.

So what's next for Mariah in Australia? Hopefully sales will continue to rise this week and we'll see Mariah creep towards #1. This month the title of the next single is expected to be announced. Originally "Last Night A DJ Saved My Life" was thought to be the next single, however "Don't Stop" may now be a possibility. A promo tour next month is also being considered.

For the longevity of "Glitter" it is imperative that we request all this week on the Hot30.com Countdown. "Last Night A DJ Saved My Life" is most likely to receive airplay, so vote now on the Hot30.com Countdown and keep voting all week.

Many thanks to the Australian Mariah Carey Fanclub.
