Virgin bosses "furious" with Mariah
Mariah Carey is thought to have checked herself into a clinic after this week after becoming depressed at being beaten by Destiny's Child's to the US No 1 single spot. Mariah's new single Loverboy rocketed from No 60 to No 2 in the US Billboard chart but couldn't beat Beyonce, Kelly and Michelle to the coveted top spot.
Meanwhile bosses at Mariah's new record company Virgin are said to be very angry the singer has checked herself into a hospital complaining of extreme exhaustion. Saturday's New York Post quoted a source from the record company in America saying Mariah's illness has caused a rift between Virgin's boss Nancy Berry and Mariah who earlier this year signed a £20 million an album deal with the company.
"Virgin is furious. Right now she needs to be out there doing concerts, signing CDs for fans, doing TV shows and getting on the radio stations," said an insider. "Virgin practically gave away the singles when they weren't doing well but even then Mariah couldn't beat out Destiny's Child."
Virgin discounted the price of Mariah's Loverboy single in a bid to beat Destiny's Child. Mariah is thought to be in a hospital in the US, but the location is not being revealed by her spokeswoman Cindi Berger. Other sources also claim that Mariah very depressed after splitting with boyfriend, Latin singer Luis Miguel.
