Fans are never too far

Mariah Carey's brand new flick Glitter has been receiving very bad press since its U.S debut in early September. Bad reviews, no promotion, minimal coverage - it copped it all. It bombed in the U.S, all mainly due to those factors and the terrorist attacks of September 11. Glitter, about a young singer (Carey) fighting for a dream and dealing with personal issues on the way, was expected to follow suit from the U.S and flop in Australia, but Mariah's Australian fan base is still strong - proving that she is the queen of the entertainment industry.

In the coming of it's November 1 release, it has been said that newspapers have never received more flak for badly publicising the film. Sydney's "Sun-Herald" received over 500 complaints from not only Carey's fans, but movie-goers for not giving Mariah a "fair go" in their review titled "Mariah turns into Pariah", where they claimed Glitter was another chance for the singing superstar to show a little cleavage and behave in a tramp-like manner. Readers were disgusted.

Movie theatres across Sydney were trampled over this past week by people of the general public, inquiring into the film's release. Greater Union Miranda actually received up to 75 complaints on their feedback line from irritated locals who who were interested in viewing the film, it appears that the complex have no interest in screening the movie. Close by, Greater Union Hurstville received 20 lots of criticism on Tuesday night, where it was announced that the movie house will show Glitter only at 9:30pm each night - it has now been changed; starting Friday, Greater Union Hurstville will be playing it all day.

Glitter, Mariah Carey's least successful production is released nationally today in only 55 cinemas across Australia at very limited session times (compared to it's competition, Zoolander opening to 250+). A word to fans; although the consumer demand is evident for the movie, unfortunately it shouldn't reach the Top 5 - a Top 10 ranking at the Box Office next week is an accomplishment on its own. She doesn't deserve these poor results, but that's the consequence of a voiceless and bias country, acting weak in following the U.S too closely.
