Mariah to form own label

Following her $20 million departure from Virgin Records, Mariah Carey is looking to set up her own label. The octave-straddling warbler quit Virgin one record into a five-album deal in January and she is thought to be keen on taking more control of her own output in the future. Carey is thought to be considering offers from a number of record companies, but the whisper is that she wants to have a semi-independent subsidiary label of her own, in much the same way as Madonna runs Maverick as a part of Warner. A spokesman for Carey told MSNBC, "She's meeting with a number of labels and looking into a variety of possibilities."
