Mariah making tracks

Mariah Carey is busy working on a new album, despite not yet having signed a recording contract. The troubled diva, who was dumped from EMI following disappointing sales of her last album "Glitter", is said to have been collaborating with a number of producers for her forthcoming long-player. According to MTV News, Carey and hip-hop producer 7 Aurelius spent time earlier this month recording in the Bahamas. 7, who has previously worked with the likes of Jennifer Lopez, Ja Rule and Ashanti, said working with the singer was amazing.

"She's an amazing writer," he said. "We did three or four songs in three or four days. The way we was doing it, I had [a horn section] down there along with me. We had the whole room set up with candles, some nice wine - [it was] a very good vibe." He added: "It was completely stripped down, like Mariah Carey Unplugged. She stripped herself down to her talent. She was really trusting of me and my vision, and I was trusting of who she was."

According to 7, the pair have worked on a combination of mid-tempo and up-tempo tracks, as well as ballads. "We did a stadium joint called Reach For The Sky, which is amazing," he said. "She likened it to Hero. All this was with a live band."

Meanwhile, West Coast rapper DJ Quick says he too has completed a track with Carey. "Mariah is serious," he said. "It's funny, I didn't get a chance to do her vocals, but I like how she takes the recording process seriously. She's not in there lollygagging, wasting time. She's in there writing harmonies with her girls. It was real cool." He commented: "It don't hurt that she's real fine. She's real easy on the eyes."
