Mariah's life-sized £5k cake at 35th bash

Pop diva Mariah Carey ordered a life-size £5000 cake modelled on herself for her 35th birthday party last night. The singer's staggering 6ft sponge was made by a 17 strong team of chefs from Harrods and was unveiled at a party in London's exclusive Tantra nightclub. The black, gold and cream creation was filled with praline buttercream and is the latest in a long line of extravagant demands by the pop diva. Carey - in the UK to promote new album The Emancipation of Mimi - is famous for her prima donna behaviour.

When she and her 15-strong entourage - which includes a dietician and masseuse - checked into Kensington's Baglioni hotel last Sunday, she demanded a red carpet lined with white candles be laid before she entered - even though it was 2.30am. Her limousine circled the block while hotel staff were woken and put to work. But it's no wonder hotel management are happy to grant Carey's every wish - she has hired 15 rooms for a week at a cost of £120,000.

When a small kitchen fire broke out on Monday night, the staff were even too scared to wake her and ask her to evacuate her room. Fire crews tackled the blaze as she slept. Carey also turned up late for a champagne reception at the Capital FM Awards on Wednesday, where she was to be given an Outstanding Contribution to Music award. She broke a nail before the event and a manicurist had to be found to repair the damage.
