Mariah matches Hot 100 milestone
With "We Belong Together" notching a remarkable 14th non-consecutive week at No. 1 on The Billboard Hot 100 and "Shake It Off" jumping 4-2 on the main singles chart, Mariah Carey becomes just one of five acts to hold the top two positions on the Hot 100 since the chart's inception in 1958. The feat puts her in the company of OutKast, who joined the club last year, Nelly (2002), the Bee Gees (1978) and the Beatles (1964).
"Shake It Off" is the Hot 100's greatest airplay gainer for the week and jumps 3-2 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and 13-8 on the Pop 100 tally. The ubiquitous reign of "Together", meanwhile, is starting to wane, as the cut drops 1-4 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Songs list after 14 weeks on top, and 3-4 on the Pop 100. On the Hot Ringtones chart, however, "Together" rebounds 2-1, putting it on top for a fifth non-consecutive week. Its reign there was interrupted last week by Bow Wow's "Let Me Love You" featuring Omarion, which returns to No. 2.
With the rise of "Shake" on the Hot 100, the Pussycat Dolls' "Don't Cha" featuring Busta Rhymes falls 2-3, but it holds the top slot on the Pop 100 for a sixth week. The Hot 100's greatest sales gainer, Missy Elliott's "Lose Control" featuring Ciara and Fat Man Scoop, rises 6-4. With his "Let Me Hold You" holding steady at No. 5, Bow Wow's "Like You" featuring Ciara makes a 9-7 Hot 100 move. On the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs list, "Like You" takes over the lead with a 2-1 ascension.
Other Hot 100 cuts making notable strides towards the top include Fall Out Boy's "Sugar, We're Going Down" (15-12), the Black Eyed Peas' "Don't Lie" (17-14), Green Day's "Wake Me When September Ends" (21-15), David Banner's "Play" (24-16) and Kanye West's "Gold Digger" featuring Jamie Foxx (27-19). The Hot 100's top debut is Nickelback's "Photograph" at No. 75, followed by Franz Ferdinand's "Do You Want To" (No. 83), T.O.K.'s "Footprints" (No. 97), Keith Urban's "Better Life" (No. 98) and Twista's "Girl Tonite" featuring Trey Songz (No. 100).
On Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart, Faith Hill's "Mississippi Girl" remains locked at No. 1 for a second week, while Rob Thomas' "Lonely No More" begins its fourth week on top of the Adult Contemporary chart. On the Hot Latin Songs chart, Shakira's "La Tortura" featuring Alejandro Sanz is No. 1 for the second week in a row and 11th overall. Gorillaz' "Feel Good Inc." is No. 1 for a third straight week on Billboard's Modern Rock list, while Seether's "Remedy" leads the Mainstream Rock tally for a seventh non-consecutive week. (Billboard)
