Liz Taylor crowned world's "most indulgent star"
Screen goddess Dame Elizabeth Taylor is crowned the world's most indulgent star of all time in a new survey. The 68-year-old Oscar-winning actress, famed for her love of glamorous gowns and glittering jewellery, heads a top 10 of extravagant celebrities singled out by the public.
Hollywood star Julia Roberts, who reportedly had a mid-western town's plumbing altered so she could bathe in mineral water while filming her latest film The Mexican is placed at number two. And rock band Guns'n'Roses, whose tour contracts stipulated their dressing room should contain a giant glass bowl of M&Ms, is listed third.
Singing superstar Michael Jackson is at number eight, in recognition of his alleged reliance on a high pressure oxygen chamber to help him retain his youth, while pop diva Mariah Carey is included at number seven as a reflection of her supposed reliance on weekly home deliveries of Dead Sea salt, which she uses to exfoliate.
Bottom of the top 10 list is Elvis Presley, who reputedly cheered himself up when feeling low by watching through a two-way mirror as two teenage girls wearing white knickers wrestled each other.
A total of 1,000 people aged 18 to 35 were questioned for the poll, which presented them with a list of more than 100 indulgent celebrities to choose from. A spokeswoman for Shape, who carried out the survey to celebrate the launch of its new chocolate chip yoghurts, said: "Everyone is obsessed by indulgence and our poll shows that Hollywood stars are certainly the most extravagant. Our survey also shows that, when it comes to indulging, women are clearly ahead in the battle of the sexes."
