Kanye keeps digging No. 1 single
Despite losing his grip on the top rung of the album chart, Kanye West's "Gold Digger" solidifies its No. 1 status on several Billboard charts again this week. The Jamie Foxx-featuring song is No. 1 for a third consecutive week on the Hot 100, where it is also the title with the biggest airplay gains.
It also notches a third week at the top of the Hot Digital Songs and Hot Ringtones lists and a second on the R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Pop 100 tallies. The only major chart where the West/Foxx single has so far been unable to claim the crown is the Hot Rap Tracks tally, where Bow Wow's "Like You", featuring Ciara is No. 1 for a fourth straight week. "Like" is also threatening on the Hot 100, where it advances 4-3. On the R&B/Hip-Hop Songs list, where it was unseated from No. 1 by "Gold Digger", it is No. 2 for a second week.
As reported yesterday, West's sophomore album, "Late Registration" (Roc-A-Fella/Def Jam), falls to No. 2 this week on The Billboard 200, giving up the top slot to Paul Wall's "The Peoples Champ" (SwishaHouse/Asylum).
The across-the-board success of "Gold Digger" has held Mariah Carey's "Shake It Off" at bay on the Hot 100, where it remains No. 2 for a fourth straight week. On the Pop 100 and Hot Ringtones charts the cut advances 3-2, while on the R&B/Hip-Hop Songs list it sits at No. 3. Carey's long-running former No. 1 "We Belong Together" is making a slow exit, falling 3-5 on the Hot 100 this week, 4-6 on the R&B/Hip-Hop tally and 8-11 on the Pop 100.
Black Eyed Peas' "My Humps" is also making a charge, advancing 7-4 on the Hot 100 and 6-3 on the Pop 100, while 50 Cent's "Outta Control (Remix)" makes a 9-6 Hot 100 move and climbs 19-15 on the Pop 100.
Green Day's "Wake Me Up When September Ends" jumps 10-8 on the Hot 100, 13-7 on the Pop 100, 5-4 on the Hot Digital Songs list. Joining the Hot 100's top 10 is David Banner's "Play", which ascends 14-10. That track is No. 3 on the Hot Rap Songs chart and No. 5 on the R&B/Hip-Hop tally.
Last week's top Hot 100 debut, Ashlee Simpson's "Boyfriend", is the chart's greatest sales gainer this week, and zooms 71-24. On the Hot Digital Songs chart, it's up 32-7.
This week's top Hot 100 debut is Alicia Keys' "Unbreakable", which bows at No. 61. Also new to the list is Switchfoot's "Stars" (No. 69), Coldplay's "Fix You" (No. 77), Sheryl Crow's "Good Is Good" (No. 88), John Mayer Trio's "Who Did You Think I Was" (No. 92), Tommy Lee's "Good Times" (No. 95), Santana's "I'm Feeling You" featuring Michelle Branch and the Wreckers (No. 96) and D4L's "Laffy Taffy" (No. 98).
On the Billboard's Hot Latin Songs chart, Shakira's "La Tortura" featuring Alejandro Sanz simply won't let go of No. 1, where it's parked for a fifth consecutive and 14th non-consecutive week. Sara Evans celebrates a second week at No. 1 on the Hot Country Songs roundup with "A Real Fine Place To Start" and Rob Thomas' "Lonely No More" notches a seventh at the summit of the Adult Contemporary airplay chart.
With Gorillaz' "Feel Good Inc." topping the Modern Rock chart for a sixth week, the Mainstream Rock chart sees a new No. 1 as Staind's "Right Here" retreats to No. 2, trading places with Nickelback's "Photograph". (Billboard)
