Mariah wins at Radio Music Awards

Congratulations to Mariah for winning all of the three awards she was nominated for at the 2005 Radio Music Awards. Mariah racked up the awards for Artist of the Year/Urban and Rhythmic Radio, Song of the Year/Mainstream Hit Radio and Song of the Year/Urban and Rhythmic Radio. Plus, the Radio Legend Award. The awards ceremony was televised live on NBC from the Aladdin Resort & Casino in Las Vegas yesterday.

Here is Mariah's acceptance speech for Song of the Year, Mainstream Hit Radio ("We Belong Together"): "Oh my goodness. Whoo. Thank you God for everything always. It's by the grace of God that I'm here. All the glory to God. And I just want to thank everyone at radio, really, thank you so much. I will never ever be able to express the importance of radio and how great it's impacted upon my life. I love all the PDs, all the MDs, everybody that's ever played any one of my records particularly this record. Thank you L.A. Reid. Thank you Jermaine Dupri, I love you so much. Thank you all Island Def Jam team. God bless you."

Here is Mariah's acceptance speech (with DJ Clue) for Song of the Year, Urban/Rhythmic Radio ("We Belong Together"):

DJ Clue: Yeah, yeah, yeah. She ain't think we were gonna win so I wrote the list of....

Mariah: This is the infamous DJ Clue.

DJ Clue: No doubt. First of all, we want to thank everyone at Def Jam.

Mariah: The whole IDJ family and we also still want to thank JD. We wish you were here with us tonight Jermaine 'cause we love you.

DJ Clue: All the mix show DJs, all the radio programmers who played the record man, thank y'all.

Mariah: I just wanna thank you Clue for hearing the song as a ballad and going, "we need to do this for a remix" 'cause you did the best.

DJ Clue: No doubt.

Mariah: And thank you to all the fans out there. Thank you so much. God bless you. Thank you so much.

Mariah also won the Radio Legend Award, She was introduced by Mary J. Blige and Mark McGrath.

Mary J. Blige: Mariah is too young to be a legend, but what can you do? She's won a hundred awards including Grammys, the Academy Award, the RMA for Most Requested Artist on Radio. She's up for eight more Grammys in February. And don't be surprised when she wins them all. Two years ago, the recording industry saluted her for more than one hundred gold, platinum and multi-platinum discs - now that's incredible.

Mark McGrath: Yes, it is. Mariah gives everything to her music and fans, things she finds more to give to those less fortunate. She's incredibly generous with her charitable contributions and time. She works tirelessly on behalf of children in need. If you weren't a legend for her music, she would be one for humanitarian efforts.

Mary J. Blige: Wow. With all her accomplishments, is she slowing down? Give me a break. This year, her sixteenth #1 hit, "We Belong Together" was #1, the #1 song played on radio and held the top of the charts for an astonishing fourteen weeks.

Nark McGrath: Her latest single, "Don't Forget About Us" is on the verge of being her seventeenth #1. Unbelievable. That puts her just behind Elvis Presley and The Beatles and no one else is even close. Oh, and the top album of the 2005? The 5x platinum, "The Emancipation of Mimi". She is a master.

Mary J. Blige: Just another day in a life of a legend. What a privelege to present this award to my sister, my friend, your 2005 Radio Awards Legend tonight. Ladies and gentlemen, get to your feet right now for Miss Mariah Carey.

Mariah: Thank you so much to Mark and Mary for such an amazing introduction. By the way, Mary's album is in store tomorrow - "The Breakthrough" it's incredible, please go purchase it. Oh my goodness, this is such an incredible honor and I'm really humbled by this honor and I just don't even know what to say so I wrote a few little words down backstage but my writing is a little sloppy so if I forget anyone please forgive me.

Now because this award is specifically about radio, I have just have to say one thing first. I grew up addicted to radio and all I ever thought about was I just wanna hear my own records on the radio. I just, you know, that's what I wanna do - I wanna write songs, I wanna make music. I'm just so thankful to God for giving me the opportunity to do this and to be standing here today. I have to thank Doug Morris for believing in me. Thank you L.A. Reid once more never enough, never enough to thank you, you know, everyone who worked with me on this album, and all the albums in my career.

Basically what did I write down here? All the radio formats, very, very important to say this who have supported me throughout my career. Literally like all the radio programmers and the staff, everybody from the general managers to the part-time jocks and to definitely like the people who are answering the phones, the interns, everybody at radio, in radio who's there doing what they do because they love it.

Okay, I don't want to forget anybody - everybody in my management, Benny, Michael, Mark, Louise, Gina, you're beautiful darling. All my fans, you're the best in the world and everybody who helped me get here tonight, thank you, I love you. God bless you.
