Westlife on course for top

Teen hearthrobs, Westlife, look set to make UK pop history this weekend as their cover of 80s dirge Against All Odds, featuring Mariah Carey, is hotly tipped to hit the No.1 slot on Sunday. If the song reaches the top spot, it will be Westlife's sixth consecutive No.1 single, setting a new record for the UK singles chart.

The members of the Irish boy band, co-managed by the elder statesman of non-threatening boys, Ronan Keating, are currently recovering from a punishing six-month promotional tour of the US and claim to be too exhausted to celebrate their chart triumph. "It's truly unbelievable and something we would never want to take for granted," the band's Bryan McFaden told The Sun newspaper. "We have to keep pinching ourselves to believe that we might actually score six straight No.1 singles."

Westlife's chart-busting news should also bring some much-needed cheer to US power-warbler Mariah Carey, who was recently the target of a lawsuit claiming her hit, Thank God I Found You, was not entirely original.
