Mariah exhibition at Hardrock Hotel

One of the costums, donated by Tonjua Twist

No, that guy in black with the nose studs and leather wristbands walking away with your luggage is not some rock-band roadie trying to scarf your bag. He's one of the bellmen at the Hardrock Hotel, just opened at Universal Studios.

The theme here is exactly what you think it is. A bronze fountain of 42 guitars heralds the hotel entrance. Giant photos of rockers - Alice Cooper, Bowie, the Cult - grace the wall behind check-in. Tunes from Britney Spears, the Stones and Arrowsmith permeate the hotel via a state-of-the-art digitized sound system with 980 speakers in 25 zones, including 12 underwater speakers in the pool. Memorabilia decks lobby and hallways: the gold lion's head pendant Elvis wore to meet President Nixon in 1970; Elton John's silver-and-red rhinestone boots from the 1970s; a rare 1971 paisley Fender Telecaster guitar; a stage costume belonging to Mariah Carey.

The Hardrock Hotel has many Mariah items, varying from the dress Maiah wore on the #1's cover to the hat she wore on the cover of the Rolling Stone. All these items were donated by the late Tonjua Twist. If you're in the neighbourhood, check out their little Mariah exhibition.
