Jessica Simpson adds soul flavor to new lp

Pop songstress, Jessica Simpson has just recorded the last track on her new album. The song, which will be unlike anything Simpson has done is the past, is a gospel track and also a duet. Melonie Daniels, who is Mariah Carey’s long term backup singer and friend, will accompany Jessica on "His Eye Is On The Sparrow" - a song covered by many, most recently by Lauryn Hill for the "Sister Act II" Original Motion Picture Soundtrack. Daniels has worked with Mariah Carey on many projects.

Carey first recruited Daniels in 1992, when she had to organize an acoustic band for her MTV Unplugged television appearance. Melonie (then Melanie) appeared as part of the Darryl Douglass Workshop Company, which also included Kelly Price and her look-alike sister, Cheree Price (now Shanrae Price-Lascelles). From there, Daniels continued to work for Carey - singing background vocals and arranging songs for the super diva, and does till this day.

Simpson herself is a known Mariah fan and has been heard to say she "wishes she could make an album just like Mariah Carey’s debut". Meanwhile, Simpson’s new album is scheduled to hit stores in spring 2001 and the first single, "Irresistible" can be heard on radio stations across the nation.
