They will induct her eventually. I have a feeling that they are just using her for social media engagements for now, lol.
People who say they didn't give it to her because they do not respect her are being over-dramatic and irrational again, but what else is new.
They nominated her which means they respect her, she just didn't make the final cut, which means I'm pretty sure they will eventually. When, who really cares?
It's really not that big a deal. I don't think that at this stage she should run her career to please them and forever trying to measure up. She's already got all of them. She's got the songwriter HOF which I'm sure is more important for her. That's what really separates herself from many of the greats.

Not surprised (106,264)

Mary J. Blige has had a lot of high profile pop duets during her 30 years in the music business. Mary's duets with U2, George Michael, Sting, Elton John, Santana, Ray Charles, Maroon 5, Rod Stewart, Andre Bocelli, and Quincy Jones have broaden her appeal to the music industry executives as a whole. I think the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame committee looks at that too. That is what MC's career has lacked.

A Daydream release in 2024 (106,273)
by jaker20 from US
| |

|
This is not a shade at all, but I'm just being real. I never really got the whole Taylor Swift thing, I can barely listen to a few songs. I can't really point to a specific reason why. We have hit a point where music is disposable, almost to the point of just reading their diary. Releasing an album with 31 songs and many artists are doing this because that's how the charts work. Nicky Minaj and Drake have been doing this as well. Again, not a shade, just being real. We love everybody.

The Celebration completely 100% sold out (106,245)
by jaker20 from US

So they added the summer dates which is now 70% sold out. The GP just loves Mariah that's just the fact. Mariah actually seems like she's having a great time, and this time no longer needing anyone to walk. With the 30th anniversary of M Christmas, I know she'll have a lot in store. It's going to be another big year for her. If there's new music, I feel like it will be on the first quarter of 2025 because this year is stacked. I want that missing D'Brat song to be found and released.

Spotify numbers (106,014)
by jaker20 from US
| |
|
|
I would say Caution and BER.
For Caution, even though the album itself isn't a hit, it's a reintroduction to her classics. In the age of algorithms, releasing new songs allowed for her catalog to sneak into those playlists and random streams. That wont happen if you have no music. It helps that the album itself is great.
For BER, it reintroduced Fantasy and Daydream to a new audience. BER is a great remix because it's still recognizable as a Mariah song, unlike Yes And.
I hope Mariah just keep releasing good albums and not worry about the charts. It pays forward down the road.

I am sitting here trying to figure out what significant event in MC's career during last five years caused a huge increase to 90.5 million in Spotify sales. Besides AIWFCIY, the only event that I can think of is MC30. Do you think that event is the reason?

Music right now (105,977)
by jaker20 from US

There's little true talent out there too now. The last one for me was Adele, who is no longer a major player. I'm sad that her career might be cut short, because she didn't take care of her voice. But now we're in a Barbie moment. You just have to look the part and make a few bland music, and the public will eat it.

I am just finding right now that music now is just boring and lacks creativity. I sure hope that this summer gives us memorable music for the rest of the year. I just wonder if there's a reason why Dua Lipa has not announced her album title or release date. Does she anticipate huge sales and streaming numbers if she holds out until later this year?

Caution and Eternal Sunshine (105,963)
by jaker20 from US
| |
|
|
"So which brings me to why does it take Mariah so long nowadays to release an album?"
Mariah has no frequent collaborator anymore. That's her missing recipe. No artist can do it alone. Her focus on Christmas took her out of the loop. She needs a team and needs to be collaborating with new musicians, because frankly her career outlived her partnerships with JD, The-Dream or Afanasief, etc.
Mariah needs someone to bring those creative juices out of her like she does when she freestyle during her concerts.

Caution and Eternal Sunshine (105,947)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter

I remember Mariah expressed her dissatisfaction with being pushed to release "Caution" with a quick turnaround. Ariana said in her interviews that Eternal Sunshine took her 3 months to complete. She also kind of did it while shooting for a major movie. Eternal Sunshine is getting great reviews and is said to be cohesive and impactful. So which brings me to why does it take Mariah so long nowadays to release an album? She is no stranger to churning out great albums, and she finished Rainbow in a few months. But what is stopping her from fully investing herself in an album now? If she can come up with WBT, ILT, SIO all within a span of 2 days, what's hindering her now?

Sorry but get over yourself. Seriously, you are so cringy, just no one here wants to tell you straight up (no pun to Paula's more original song). Mariah's not going to be have a comeback as a major pop girl if Yes And Remix even hit no.1. No one even cared about Beyonce's latest, just a few weeks ago we want her to do the same. And now that song is dropping like a rock, and even Beyonce don't care about it enough to make a video. Charts these days are useless.

Big business cares about the numbers. In order for them to invest in a new Mariah album she has to prove that it's worth it. We are talking millions of dollars on the line. Plain and simple. Had Yes, And remix reached top 10 with a Mariah credit and kept having success for the next few months a label would be willing to take the chance that Mariah may produce more success. That's why I was hoping beyond hope that it would blow up.

Oh wow are they able to use SIO on TikTok? I thought UMG removed all their music from the platform. Also SIO is such a bop and still so fresh, I'll forever be sad that it didn't hit #1. Mariah never lied or let anyone on (105,886)
by jaker20 from US

There is more hunger for new Mariah music than in the 2010s. Mariah is more popular now after AIWFCIY hit no.1 in 2019 and everyone rediscovering her catalog. I didn't think even Mariah herself expected it and that's why she's unprepared every year. She's going to have this problem every year, but in a way it's a good problem to have.

I love Cardi but I'm relieved that Mariah isn't on it, because it's just not catchy. Yes, the video is also rachet [sic]. It doesn't seem like it's not even going to debut in the top 40, which is surprising for a major current rap artist.

Oh you are right. I was thinking of the botched release of Bye Bye lol.
The potential for Angel's Advocate release has definitely passed. I was merely pondering over the missed opportunities with that album and the could have beens in this age of collaborations and remixes. Yes, And remix is literally her 3rd most popular song right now says a lot. It makes me wonder how much she has on her vault that's from that era that actually exists, who really knows. Look at al the amount of songs on MB30th anniversary.

Angels Advocate (105,836)
by T from USA
| |
|
|
I think timelines get a little mixed up around this period. Mariah had a miscarriage in the fall of 2008. Heartbroken she was encouraged to go back into the studio and create an album, which ended up becoming Memoirs. So by the time the album came out in the fall of 2009, she was on the promotional road for the album. But unfortunately she talked more about her small cameo in the movie Precious, then she did about her new album. The album didn't meet expectations and had a huge budget that did not make the dollars back at the time so the other two versions were shelved, she got pregnant in 2010 and moved on to a Christmas release in the fall of '10. I think letting Angels Advocate go is something we need to do, as if it was good it would've already seen the light of day in some capacity. I've personally heard ten of the fourteen songs and I can undoubtedly say I like the original solo versions better.

If this entire album was released at that time, it would be her massive album streaming, if it was released as planned, which was literally just before Spotify exploded and all those names attached took off. A real missed opportunity, and those songs are most likely sitting in different vaults everywhere. But in fairness to Mariah though, it was a turbulent time for her, with her miscarriage and all.

This whole album was yet another missed opportunity. Obsessed was a huge hit. Memoirs remains one of my favorite albums and the Angels Advocate and Smoke Jumpers remix albums were just tossed aside like yesterday's garbage. What a damn shame. I'm still hoping we get official releases at least in streaming. There was music for everyone between all 3 albums. Justice for Memoirs.

Surpassing Music Box. Isn't that incredible? Time really is the true test of everything. Mariah has always referred to Music Box whenever she's talking about a time to massive success and sales peaks, but never about Daydream.
Listening to whole Daydream album, it really sounds so fresh and it flows perfectly from one song to another. Fantasy alone is one of the most perfect pop songs ever made. It's so timeless.

Controversial (105,808)
by jaker20 from US
| |
|
|
Her vocals have very little, if any, bearing to her career trajectory now. The public isn't checking her for the vocals in 2024. No current artist is successful for their great vocals. The last one is probably Adele, who by the way has been having so many vocal issues. Obsessed, Touch My Body, that's her most popular songs right now. And maybe that's part of AIWFCIY's longevity because of its playfulness, not necessarily the vocals.
I think she was on to something with Caution. Remember, Mariah said she didn't like her vocals in it. But that album received some of the best reviews of her career. But I think the timing was wrong. If that album was released now, it would be a bigger hit.
Because the Mariah post 2019, after AIWFCIY first hit no.1, is more popular and beloved than the 2010s Mariah. Unlike most of her contemporaries, everyone even the kids and teens actually know her now. What's lacking is a quick follow-up to sustain that Christmas buzz. It's the era of collabs, and I think she's experimenting on that with the Ariana and the rumored Cardi B collab, if that is true.

Ok the question that I'm about to ask isn't ment to cause negativity or shade. Since we have been talking about Mariah's career tragetory and eras the last few weeks, I started to ask myself this question, and I'm curious to hear everyone's opinion. If Mariah's voice did not deteriorate (she can still sing by the way), do you think her career tragetory would have been different (from where we are currently at now), or do you think it was inevitable that she would be put in "legacy" status, due to her age, and ageism in the industry?

Cardi B (105,792)
by jaker20 from US
| |
|

Cardi B and Ari are still within the same broader range of Mariah's category. Besides in this day and age, artists dabble into everything that categories really don't mean all that much anymore. Country artists doing rap, Beyonce doing country, Billy Eillish does what she wants. Its all kind of mixed up now. I think music categories isn't as clear cut as it used to be.
Let me add, Mariah herself has incorporated all these genres into her albums and played with jazzy influences like Portrait and Subtle Invitation, then Mariah's had a couple of gospel influenced songs throughout her albums. And of course Mariah's had a huge influence in bringing hip-hop to the mainstream. So its not a huge jump for Mariah to do these.
She doesn't necessarily need to pick one of these lanes, since she's already doing all of them. What we want is more of them. Or rather, we want, well anything, since she's not releasing much at all.

This is why I'm so confused about the lambily. Some of the same people who didn't want her collaborating with Ari and now wanting a Cardi B song. Mariah must be so confused as to who actually is her fanbase and how to sell to them. Personally, I want to hear it all but maybe she should pick a lane and stick to it. If she does go the contemporary route hopefully it will be the last time and then she'll just fully make more mature music like jazz and gospel in her 60's.

Someone that she has chemistry with. Like Beyonce has JayZ who is essentially Beyonce's co-producer and is a full-time music artist and is in the studio full time. Or Taylor's parents, who are her money partners (I'm not insulting her, but let's face it, they're good with money and promoting her).
Mariah is on her own. In fact, her best career inspirations are the twins, who are probably behind her social media ideas. But she's not surrounded by musical nor business partners. She can't do it alone, especially a musical empire as big as hers.

Rumor has it Mariah has some sort of release planned before her Vegas residency, if it's a "buzz single" I don't want it haha. All her "buzz singles" are dropped and forgotten within days. I would rather a proper era. Yes it won't be close to the TEOM era but with the right team and planning I hope we get a decent one.
